AUTISM RAINBOWS - EXT. ADVISORY : 4/11/2013


Autism Awareness Extended Advisory

Your advisory class will have a chance to share some positive experiences they have had with students with autism or facts they have learned about autism using the rainbow sheets provided.

Each student should have his or her own rainbow to color in.  Rainbows were chosen in support of the SOAR program (Support Our Autism Rainbow) housed in many of our district schools (including Candlewood) which provides after school opportunities for students with autism to develop social interactions with typically developing students.  There may be students in your class who participate in SOAR.

After coloring the rainbow, teachers should help students to share or brainstorm positive experiences they have had with students with autism or facts they have learned.  Please ask that students are careful about not sharing too much information about a student out loud or on the sheet (i.e. using full names or details that may be personal or confidential).   Sharing your positive experiences may help to get the ball rolling…
