December 3rd was the second annual Giving Tuesday - a national day of giving. Giving Tuesday was started last year to coincide with the start of the annual holiday season. It celebrates and encourages charitable activities that support non-profit organizations.
Candlewood Middle School has always been a generous and caring school. We have a rich and meaningful tradition of unselfishly giving our time, support, and money to help those that are in need.
In support of Giving Tuesday, this holiday season – all through December, we would like to do something special.
During today’s Extended Advisory, please discuss as a class the various ways that we as a school community can come together and make a difference.
Listed below are three ideas for a school-wide Giving campaign. Vote for the idea that your class would like to see here at Candlewood. We’ll announce the winning GIVING campaign tomorrow and START GIVING next week.
Coats and Blankets Collection - new or gently used coats, sweatshirts, sweaters and blankets (all sizes needed) for “Every Child’s Dream,” a local organization that provides support for needy families.
Toys for Tots Collection - Toys for Tots is a program run by the United States Marine Corps Reserve which distributes toys to children whose parents cannot afford to buy them gifts for Christmas. Toys are collected locally by the Dix Hills Fire Department.
Pet Shelter Collection – Little Animal Shelter Rescue in Huntington collects pet food, pet toys, treats, and doggy poop bags to help needy families to provide a forever home for homeless pets.
